The King of the Fjords

DAY 1 Oslo
Welcome to Oslo! On arrival make your way to your hotel followed by the remainder of your day free to explore the Norwegian capital.

DAY 2 Oslo - Flam
Early departure from Oslo Railway Station to depart on one of the most scenic trips in Europe. Travel to the mountain station of Myrdal where you will jump aboard the historic Flam Railway, a 20 kilometre long train journey down to Flam deep in the fjord. On the journey you have views of some of the most magnificent mountain scenery in Norway with an ever-changing panorama of tall mountains and thundering waterfalls. Along the Flam railway the train moves slowly or stops at the best views. On arrival in the idyllic fjord side village of Flam make the short walk to your hotel for check-in.

We recommend having dinner at the AEgir Brew Pub that is located next door to your hotel. This boutique brewery and restaurant is steeped in Viking history, as are the menus on offer. They use local ingredients that would have been familiar in Viking times, but with flavours to suit the modern palate.

DAY 3 Flam - Balestrand
Spend the morning at leisure, perhaps exploring the village or further afield we recommend the tour to Stegastein Viewpoint - a spectacular viewing platform, 650 metres above Aurlandsfjord, or a Fjord Safari aboard an RIB boat where you will discover the fjords villages and waterfalls.

Mid afternoon board your ferry from Flam to Balestrand. Cruise for one and a half hours through the spectacular fjord land scenery of the Auerlandfjord and the Sognefjord. On arrival at the historic village of Balestrand walk the short distance from the pier to your hotel which is superbly located on the banks of the fjord and surrounded by mountains.

The balance of your day can be spent exploring Balestrand on foot, you will discover the charming village houses, the unique Church of St. Olaf and the Viking Barrows, where according to legend, King Bele was buried.

DAY 4 Balestrand - Bergen
Depending on your preference, you can depart for Bergen early morning or late afternoon. Spending the day in Balestrand, situated in one of the oldest fruit growing regions in Norway, affords you the time to explore further the beautiful laneways covered in blossoming fruit trees. We recommend an optional cider tasting experience including lunch to learn about Norwegian cider traditions.

Make your way to the pier for the four hour express ferry along the Sognefjord and west coast of Norway to Bergen, the beautiful capital of the fjords.

DAY 5 Bergen
Your tour concludes this morning after breakfast and check out from your hotel. If you have time in Bergen before your departure we recommend a visit to the popular Fish and Flower Market, Bryggen Harbour and the old Hanseatic Quarter. You may also like to take the funicular to Mt.Floyen, for the best views of the city and fjords.
