Itinerary + Map

DAY 1 Reykjavik
Your tour commences with an optional arrival transfer to your hotel. Depending on the time you arrive, you can start to explore the most northern capital in the world.

Stay at: Hotel Skuggi (3 star) or similar

DAY 2 Reykjavik - Golden Circle - South Shore - Vik
Explore the famous Golden Circle today, starting with Thingvellir National Park where the ancient Viking Parliament sat and where the North American and European tectonic plates meet. Then visit the two tiered Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir area with its bubbling mud spots and striking Strokkur geyser. Before leaving the Golden Circle stop in Laugarvatn, a town built around three hot springs, where clever residents have harnessed the hot springs for power and water. You’ll visit a unique outdoor geothermal bakery where sweet Icelandic rye bread is baked in hot sands and enjoy a little taster.

Later today travel along the South Shore, scattered with volcanoes and waterfalls. Drive by typical family farms, often with colourful herds of horses grazing in the fields. If the skies are clear, you might see the area’s two most famous volcanoes in the distance: Mount Hekla (last eruption 2000) and Eyjafjallajökull (last eruption 2010). Stop at Seljalandsfoss, a stunning waterfall which you can walk behind with a hidden footpath (depending on conditions), shortly followed by its cousin, the 60 metre mighty Skogafoss. Then journey to the black sand beach of Reynisfjara where you can admire the extraordinary rock formations and thundering waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

End the day in Vík, Iceland’s southernmost town. Summer nights in the countryside are peaceful, and the light from the midnight sun covers the landscape with a golden glow. The sun descends toward the horizon, but it never completely sets. During sunny evenings, the sky is often filled with glorious shades of pink and gold.

DAY 3 Vik - Jokulsarlon - Vatnajokull - Vik
Start the day at the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon where you will jump onto an amphibian boat and be taken amongst the floating iceburgs. Afterwards you will be able to walk along the Diamond beach, with the chunks of ice from the lagoon sparkling against the sand. Next you will visit the Skartafell area of the Vatnajokull National Park, housing one of Europe's largest glaciers, before returning to Vik for an evening filled with Icelandic summer traditions. Meet some Vík locals at Smiðjan Brugghús Icelandic brewpub, where you’ll learn how the delicious beer is made and sample some of the brews.

Smiðjan is known for its tasty Icelandic-style barbecue cuisine, which you’ll get to enjoy at dinner. Grilling and barbecues are summer traditions every family in Iceland has enjoyed, whether at home or in a countryside holiday cottage.

This evening, join your group for a night walk in the beautiful Vík area (subject to weather conditions). Many Icelanders enjoy late evening walks in the midnight sun, a time of the day known as the “magical hour.” Several Icelandic folktales actually describe magical things that have happened on bright summer evenings. During your walk you’ll try some tasty Icelandic refreshments. You might even have a chance to listen to and learn some beloved Icelandic summer songs.

DAY 4 Vik - Hveragerdi - Bluel Lagoon - Reykjavik
Head back along the beautiful South Coast to visit the village of Hveragerdi, which is one of the few sites in the world located directly in the middle of a geothermal area. Hveragerdi is often called “The Flower Village” because of its geothermal greenhouses. Afterwards, visit a horse farm to meet some Icelandic horses, the Viking horse breed that played a pivotal role in Icelandic history. Enjoy petting these friendly horses and snapping a few selfies with them followed by a taste of some sweet refreshments that are traditionally served on Icelandic farms.

End the day's sightseeing at the famous Blue Lagoon for some relaxation. Enjoy its warm, mineral-rich waters and the stunning views of the surrounding lava fields. Arrival into Reykjavik, your tour guide will bid you farewell, and the evening will be yours to explore.
